The Power of Story and the Future of the Planet
In his groundbreaking essay, “The New Story,” environmental author Thomas Berry wrote, “It’s all a question of story. We are in trouble just now because we do not have a good story. We are in between stories. The old story…is no longer effective. Yet we have not learned the new story.” As we confront the escalating ecological and social crises of our time, what stories are needed to guide us into the future? How does the power of worldview and narrative affect the ways we see the planet and ourselves?
In this talk, Drew Dellinger will explore the transformational power of story, from the arts to social change. Dellinger will look at four levels of story: (1) the personal, (2) the socio-political, (3) the archetypal/mythic, and (4) the ecological and cosmological. Together we can dream ourselves a new global story. The future is a poem inside our pen.
Drew Dellinger is an internationally-known speaker, poet, writer and visionary. He has been called “a national treasure,” by Joanna Macy and “one of the most creative, courageous and prophetic poets of his generation,” by Cornel West. Full Bio.
