Religion, Science, and Integral Spirit: A Sacred Story for Our Time

Nearly 20 years ago, I began wrestling with this question: Had we become so individualistic and shortsighted that we gave no particular priority to the survival of the species, even for the sake of our own children? I’ve since realized the problem begins with stories that trap us in mutually suicidal relationships with one another and nature. Liberation begins with bringing to the fore of human consciousness a new sacred story with ancient roots that gives us a reason to care.

“Our creation stories have powerful implications for our understanding of our place in the cosmos and thereby shape our most foundational values, our politics, and the distribution of power in society.

We come to know the nature, purpose, and intention of the divine force through both our inner experience and our observation of its physical manifestation. All beings, stars, planets, humans, animals, plants, rocks, and rivers are expressions of this divine force—each with its place and function in the journey of the whole.

Extreme individualism, greed, and violence are pathological and a sign of physical, developmental, cultural, and/or institutional system failure. Caring relationships are the foundation of healthy families and communities—and of a healthy global economy.” ~David Korten
